A fantastic turnout in Aberdeen got the latest round of Regional Finals under-way as a record field sat down for step 2 of the Las Vegas journey. The usual £1,000 would be shared out amongst the top eight players.

‘Shuffle up n Deal’ was announced at around 2pm as the card room fell silent. Donald Denton, Ewan Gray and Dean Leslie were amongst the first group of players to be eliminated before the break, scheduled for 3pm.

Once play resumed we had the team event winner to crown. The Granary in Elgin, the Scotia Bar in Aberdeen and the Imperial Bar in Cupar were all in with a shout as we approached the business end of the tournament. The winning trio of Jude Davison, Ollie Andric and Jim Anderson from the Scotia Bar in Aberdeen took the plaudits as they beat over 20 other venues to the North Scotland Team Event title.

The short stack, Liam Leiper, was the first player to be eliminated in 9th place. Liam was followed by fellow short stacks Gordon Cuthill and Brian Buchan. The heads-up contest came down to Shawn Brown and Kevin Linton from the Ben Mhor and Charlotte Bar respectively. The final hand of the day saw Shawn’s Q9ss match up against Kevin’s 75ss. Both players saw a tasty flop of 3KTss, but Shawn’s monster draw cancelled out Kevin’s flush outs. A turn and river of 2 & 9 sealed the win for Shawn who was then crowned as the new North Scotland Regional Final champion!
