The Carnage…

The Grosvenor in Bristol hosted our third South West regional final. A regional final that was short lived for the likes of Bill Turner and Redtooth regular Chris Austin as they were the first two players to hit the rail. The Beer Social Club, last season’s Team Event winners, had another good showing. With one finalist and another top 30 finisher they were once again one of the best represented venues. However, they were eventually dethroned of the crown by the Sloop Inn in Kingskerswell who were represented by finalist and league champ Andrew Hiew, Bob Bradfield and James Drake

With an all star line up it was going to be a final table to remember. Three of the 10 finalists had already booked their place in Nottingham. Neil Vigor, Daniel Mitchell and Michael Westlake respectively. This was also back to back final tables for Michael as he was looking to improve on his 2nd place finish last season. If three national finalists wasn’t enough then sat in seat 3 was a previous national final top 10 finisher. In the very first Redtooth year Tracy Clark made an 8th place finish at the national final, achieving that feat this year would take you to Las Vegas for a week on Redtooth!! As Michael Westlake started with a big stack, the short stacks were soon dropping out. This eventually brought a heads-up match between the two Michaels. The final hand saw an action flop of 7-9-10, especially when Whittington was holding J-8 for the straight and Westlake holding the Brunson for top pair. A turn and river of J-3 gave Michael Whittington from the Black Castle in Bristol the victory and a cool £500!
