SUNDAY 4TH MARCH
LOOSE CANNON CLUB – LONDON
THE ACTION
The usual place, usual time for our East Londoners as nearly 200 players fought for eight national final seats and a share of £1,000.
It turned out to be a day to forget for the Pilot Inn lads as two of their three players, Ben Jacques and Stewart Daniels were amongst the first group of players to hit the rail and bar with Greg Gilmore also finishing outside the top 100.
Our East London regional final is rapidly becoming famous for John Beech’s fancy dress costumes. Having previously been dressed as a Thunderbird and The Stig, this time he wandered through the doors with his mate both dressed as the 118 guys.
But back to poker, the Beech Tree in Orpington secured their first team title and also had a finalist in Terry Barnes. Neil Barnes and Simon Bradshaw were the support act for Terry as they were later presented with a glass trophy.
THE FINAL TABLE
Seat 1: Richard Ozaneye – Heathcote Arms, Leytonstone (101,000)
Seat 2: Stuart Rowley – Alleyns Head, West Dulwich (124,000)
Seat 3: Mick Liddey – Swan. Brentwood (27,000)
Seat 4: Shaun Derrick – Anchor, Bexley (82,000)
Seat 5: Mark Crowley – Oakwood, Leigh on Sea (104,000)
Seat 6: Bradley Lupton – Greene Man, Chingford (137,000)
Seat 7: William Powell – Village, Walthamstow (58,000)
Seat 8: Mark McNamara – Anchor, Bexley (44,000)
Seat 9: Gordon Lillis – George, Bexley (7,000)
Seat 10: Terry Barnes – Beech Tree, Orpington (160,000)
Terry Barnes led the way with a more than healthy stack. Gordon Lillis’s stack of only 7,000 didn’t last him too long as he hit the rail in 9th which meant bubbling the national final seats. Stuart Rowley’s stack of 124,000 soon deserted him as he finished in 7th place respectively. Bradley, Richard, William and Mark soon joined him as we were left with our final two players, Terry Barnes and Mark McNamara. The final hand was a belter as Terry’s J-10 was up against Mark’s A-2 and with a flop of 7-10-10 Mark was drawing dead to running aces. A turn and river of Q & 7 confirmed Terry as the new East London regional final champion.
