It became quite exciting at the West Yorkshire regional final held at the Village Hotel & Leisure Club, Headingley.
The final 9 players were all through to the National final but were hanging on for the cash prizes when suddenly three players were knocked out at the same time leaving a final table of just 6.
After a gruelling few hours of play the final heads up came between Keith Allanson of the Red Lion, Leeds and Dave Marley of the George Inn, Bridlington. Keith’s hold cards were Kd 5s against Dave’s J 2 suited. The flop delivered 10s 3h Qd giving Dave a possible but improbable flush. The turn came with 3s making Dave’s flush more probable but giving both players a pair of 3’s and Keith a nail biting moment with a K high. But the river awarded Dave the win with 2c, giving him two pairs.
