A healthy 230 players were spread across 32 tables as the latest South Yorkshire Regional Final got underway at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane. Trevor Beavers got the wooden spoon as he was our first player out as the other 229 players carried on the battle. Our final table was set once Chris Forbes was unfortunate enough to finish in 9th place and bubble the National Final qualifying places.

Gareth Thomas started the final table with a commanding chip lead with almost 200,000 more chips than 2nd placed Alex Cash. Andrew Siddal started needing alot of help with only 50,000 in chips. But it was Gareth Thomas who never looked back as he finished as the South Yorkshire champion by beating Neil Gass heads-up as his flopped overcards + openender got there on the turn against Alex’s bottom pair.
