Our South West regional final was played at the Grosvenor Casino in Plymouth which welcomed players from the Devon and Cornwall areas. One seat into VEGAS100 2016 was awarded to the winner of the tournament with seven other players sharing £500 for their hard day’s work.
Recognition was also given to the best represented team who receives a crystal glass trophy to take back to the pub. On this occasion it was the Ship Inn in Paignton’s Sunday league and they were represented by Pete Layland, Jason Rosser, Matt Heaselden and Phil Knight.
Ben Desborough started the final table as the big stack with a huge 169,000 chips, dwarfing the majority of the other stacks. Unfortunately Ben could only manage a 5th place finish and with Phil Knight exiting in 3rd place shortly after we had our heads-up match between Terry Kempe and Gordon Whitehead. The tournament came to a finish when Terry was dealt 6-6 to Gordon’s 9-2 suited with a proceeding board of A-K-8-5-2 being of no help to Gordon’s short stack to eliminate him in 2nd place. Terry Kempe was declared the winner and will now be off to Las Vegas in May 2016 to compete in VEGAS100.
